JAMS ep03 : Inspectres

8/18/2016
Javier's Armed Men Squad

Episode Three
"Faerie"

Inspectres
As the last episode of our Inspectres game, the format of this session was to be slightly different than the usual sessions.  But it felt necessary to give the game an appropriate ending to the story.

Opening Scene
All four are standing in a room.  Javier is wearing an armored suit and asks the others to double check if the suit is working well.  Pylons have been set up on the ground, and within the metal rods, an open doorway of light beckons.  The Spirit of Sherlock Holmes hovers nearby, watching as the group prepares. Stepping through, they see the almost perpetual night encompasses the area.   Holmes mutters about how this place is also known as, "The Upside Down."

Getting the Call, A Flashback #1

An old phone rings.   A ghostly hand reaches for it and answers.  The Ghost of Sherlock Holmes receives a call from Javier, who reminds the great detective that his parents once rescued the ghost from an inescapable trap.  Javier is now calling to "collect" on the favor.  Holmes admits he is a man of his word.

Javier tells the others that Holmes is willing to help them but admits he isn't sure if Holmes is lying as, "He is a ghost. Not a man. So he could be lying since he is no longer a man of his word." Gary shakes his head and reminds Javier, "He can hear you. He is still on the other side."  Javier corrects Gary, though, explaining Holmes is still on, "This side. Not the other side."  Gary rolls his eyes.  Holmes turns to the volleyball with a face painted on it and tells him, "Watson.  Finally I have something to do."

Research/Investigation
Gary preps Jessie, his Bazooka, as Javier wheels nearby in his wheelchair. Javier apologizes to Gary for the news of his friend having been abducted and for the weapon as it had never been perfected.  Gary admits he is aware of the leak, which erupts as a mooing sound.  The leak, however, is from the coolant system, so it has been expelling radiated gas which means Gary will never have children.  Gary stares at the weapon and sighs realizing its probably too late to stop using it.  Gary looks for Jalfredo and finds him prepping sandwiches for the long trip.  He asks Jalfredo to include some donuts. Jalfredo slaps Gary's hand when he realizes for it, reminding him that the food is only for the journey as they should never accept any food or drink from the other side.  Their discussion digresses towards movies and television shows, with Jalfredo claiming he was in Bad Boys and not realizing there was more than one black person in the movie.  Gary ignores his ignorant racism and presses about the rules of not accepting things from the faerie world or you will give them ownership over oneself.  He explains that Javier's parents, which the group has always only seen the lower half of their body, remains partly trapped in the other side. "The less obvious is the more important thing in the other side."

Jalfredo has prepared also dried tobacco leaves, and a stick of wax used for surfboards. Not having time to prepare more things, Gary realizes the team will have to rely on what he's prepared. Jalfredo even informs him that of everything, one of them is a poisoned one - a contingency in case the faerie folk attempted to trick them. When asked how to know which one is which, however, Jalfredo is unable to answer as he rushes off to answer a call from Javier. He begins to notice the differences in the items, like how one donut has a square hole instead of a round one.

Aiden visits Jato at the garage, who seems frustrated with the fact there are no new vehicles to use. Instead there are the pylons that Javier has instructed him to prep for the Mission. Jato harshly tells Aiden off, reminding him they are not friends as they didn't speak up against Javier when he got first fired.  Aiden asks about the Faerie folk and Jato shares how some mythologies think the Fair folk were the fallen angels.. the angels who did not support heaven nor hell. Aiden wonders if the crucifix will work against them, but Jato doesn't think the fair folk go to Church.  He does share that the Europeans believe in a different kind of fair folk (who are beautiful and artful and musical) while other countries believe in black dwarfs that curse people and live in mounds of earth and curse people who piss on them.  Jato however is a religious man and does not believe in such a thing.  Aiden wonders if there's a way to distract them.  Jato suggests beauty or riddles for European fae.  Non-European ones like food.  Milk, for instance.  Jato doesn't understand though why the milk is given in a saucer instead of a glass or a cup, "Who drinks from a saucer? And why not just drink from the cows?"  Aiden muses maybe its cause the cows never gave it willingly?  They wonder now if that's the root of it: It has to be willingly given.

Sherlock taps old friends long dead and from Mister William Shakespeare and asks him about the time he wrote Midsummer Night's Dream and encountered the fair folk. Shakespeare visits Sherlock and shows him his new fascination, a game where one dances and moves to match the images on the screen.   Sherlock and Shakespeare play Let's Dance as they talk about the faerie world of dreams and deception. He asks about how to find their way around the lands and William admits he thought he was visiting the lands but later he learned it was just a dream.  Visiting is a matter of invitation, calling for them because one has a present for them.  He talks of the beautiful guests who shined like the stars as they performed before them.  The trick of visiting through key places is to be there at the right time.  Another way is to create a new work of beauty so inspiring that the work itself draws them.  "A once in a generation work of masterful artwork.  The last one to invoke it was this young man... his name was two syllables. A man of color who went on stage to upset some blonde woman who was accepting an award."  Sherlock admits he does not know who that is either.  The last was to invoke the Lord of the Lesser Beings who can be invoked if one offers him a child. William waves to stop the game, and admits he is astonished at how despite not having physical bodies, their devices can detect them.  He offers to send Sherlock an e-mail, which he explains is the modern way people send each other letters now.  William sends the incantation to make to summon the Lord of the Lesser Beings and then offers Sherlock to join him for one more dance before he leaves.  They dance off to These Boots Are Made For Walking.

Suiting UpJavier explains the pylons are to hold the gate open as long as they can.  They will go inside to find their missing friend, Lucius. Javier admits they are going in for a second mission - the very reason Javier's Armed Men Squad was first created in the first place.  His parents were the original founders of the Inspectres, and they used to deal with all these supernatural things while he was left at home. Gary passes some popcorn to the others as they listen.  Javier shares how his parents eventually faced against creatures craftier than them and now remain imprisoned there.  Javier explains to rescue them is the only way to get them... completely. Javier shows them a small piece of string with a metal thing spinning on its end, "They told me if I was near them, this would begin to point in their direction." Aiden asks how they gave it to him if they were imprisoned. Javier admits it was on his 13th birthday that they made a deal to be allowed to be half here and half there. In exchanged, they would never actively find a way to escape. Javier introduces them to Sherlock, and is aghast none of them has seen the movie yet.   Aiden preps a milk-charged rifle for the mission, thinking it may be useful. Sherlock, of course, has his magnifying glass. Sherlock shares with them his conversation with Shakespeare and the group is decided they will not try offering a baby.  Gary wonders if Sherlock can write something smart and cool.  But he watches as Aiden starts scribbling on the walls with a pen, wondering if he can create a work of art.  Aiden calls out, "Guys, what about this?"

They all turn, then gasp, as they see something they have never seen before.  Even Jato, who just arrives, freezes upon seeing the wall.  They all gasp in unison, "Keep drawing."   Aiden grabs colors and continues to keep drawing.  Javier begins to weep profusely.  Jalferdo, who just arrives, gets weak-kneed as he calls it a modern Mona Lisa.  Sherlock claims to have seen better, but cannot look away. A glow erupts from one of the walls, erupting into a cross-like shape that opens into a door.  A woman emerges. Her skin is golden and white. Her body moves as if underwater. Her hair is like a forest, with things leering and gasping from within.  The whole room smells of freshly cut grass and wildflowers.  She moves past them soundlessly and stops behind Aiden.   When she speaks, that is only the time they realize she had arrived.  She calls Aiden a master of this era, and Javier motions at the others to hold the door open with the pylons! Aiden claims to be adding finishing touches now that her muse is here.  They all feel the whole room go warm when she blushes.  One figure emerges from her hair and informs them they are before the Queen Tatianna.  Somethings in her hair grow at Javier who has not bowed (being on a wheelchair). Aiden explains he cannot bow because... Gary slips in and explains, "of your beauty."  They explain he has "Cancer of the Back," and cannot move properly. A figure in the Queen's hair whispers to him and he asks them to show her this "knight," this "Sir Oftabak of the land of Can." Aiden successfully defuses the situation, however, explaining he has an ailment.  The Queen mutters about not having any ailment disrupt her honor and she waves at Javier, who leaps to his feet as the wheelchair shoves him off.  Javier is cured!  Aiden is offered a gift for his masterpiece, and the Queen asks what he wants.  Gary whispers to Aiden to ask for their missing friend. But Aiden doesn't get their whispers and asks for her friendship and for one of their companions who is in their world.  The Queen misunderstands and asks which one of his friends to send to her world.  When Aiden tries to explain that the Queen misunderstood, she flares up claiming to never misunderstand things!  Aiden explains he mispoke and explains that a friend of theirs accidentally slipped into her world.  She agrees that friend must be punished.  But Aiden explains the best punishment is to send him back into this world.

Gary steps in, asking if they should be given access to her world instead. The Queen asks who the speaker is, and when he gives his name, she smiles and tells him, "Therefore, you are mine."  Gary disappears.  Aiden looks at Javier and Sherlock, shocked to see him just vanish. Sherlock however realizes his ghost nature might help in the situation and he attempts to walk to the door without the others noticing.  Sherlock slips inside and vanishes.

Aiden asks if he can present to the Queen a gift, but only in her realm for inspiration. She agrees and pulls out a flower from her hair. She offers it to him, but he remembers Jato's warnings and does not take it claiming his hands would soil it. She offers instead her hand to walk with him into her realm.  Javier, at the background, opens his hands to show a guy and a girl drawn in his palms to remind him to find his parents.  Aiden and the Queen walk through the door.  Javier and Jato then ignite the pylons to keep it open - hopefully long enough for the others to return.

Fieldwork
Gary realizes he is in a long corridor.  Both directions seem endless. Gary trains the bazooka at the wall, hearing the mooing rise as it charges.  But before he can fire it, he sees a face staring at him.  He pulls away from the targeting scope and sees the purple and yellow worm on the wall talking to him. The worm asks what he wants given he is standing in front of their door. Gary is told he is at the entrance of the Labyrinth.  Mister Worm however admits he doesn't know the way out, although there are always ways into the labyrinth. There are lots of dangers and scary things in the Labyrinth although he does not know if it would be wrong to go atop the wall. He offers him to step inside to have a cup of tea.  "Usually a woman does. A Sarah. It is always a different sort. Always a Sarah looking for a Toby." Gary claims he probably won't fit inside, but the worm instructs him to walk straight forward with his hands stretched forward.  Gary shuts down the mooing bazooka and tries stepping forward.  To his amazement, he steps forward and now he sees the previously invisible passageways to the left and right.  Mister Worm invites him for some tea, but when asked, denies he is one of the fae folk. Gary claims to be a regular of the Labyrinth and he follows the Worm. To his surprise he reaches a room with a chair and table and now he's the same size as the worm.  Or are they now all big.  Another worm arrives and offers them tea.  Gary sits down, pulls out a thermos filled with coffee, and sits down to join them.  The worms admit it is so nice to see a whole new face, since they're so tired of all the Sarahs they keep receiving.  They have never seen the Tobys though.

Sherlock  sees the snow all around, the trees, pathways, and a sole standing lamp post. Footfalls nearby alert Sherlock to a figure who has arrived: half-human, half... something. Bare-chested with cloven feet. The thing addresses Sherlock, claiming he does not look like the children. Sherlock asks if the goatman has seen an older man, and asks if a Lucius has been here.  He suggests asking the Lion for information.  The goatman, however, cannot take him to the Lion as he is at odds with the former ruler of this place.  Sherlock realizes the goatman is speaking through his thoughts and not through actual words.  He is given the route to the Lion, however is warned to stick to the northern path to avoid the strange wheel like things that move about there. The goatman is shocked that Sherlock leaves no marks as he moves across the snow.  Sherlock admits he has been long dead.

The room Aiden finds himself is a great white chamber - a domed greenhouse with statues of dancers who are all dressed in finery and masks - who come to life the moment Queen Tatianna comes to the base of the tree at the center of the room.  Aiden realizes the statues were not statues and most likely were people from different eras that had been abducted before. Wisely, Aiden turns down any gifts she offers time and time again, claiming to have strange diets and the need to maintain his low body fat average.  He asks her to dance, but she claims she cannot for the King cannot approve.  When asked where the King is, she explains he is busy "With another Sarah."  When asked who Sarah is, Tatianna merely mutters, "There is always a Sarah."

Back with Mister Worm, Gary hears the music playing in the background and asks where it is coming from.  The Worms explain it is the Queen with guests and that they are never invited to the dance.  They do share whoever dances gets entranced and never wishes to leave again. Gary offers to take the worms with him to visit the Queen.  They worms warn him the lands are dangerous, especially to those who don't know where they are going. Gary admits he is looking for a friend but the worms admit here in the King's domain it is mostly just the Sarahs.  Gary wonders why the Queen sent him here to the land of Sarahs. The Worms claims that means the Queen sent him here to be punished. Had it been one of the Dwarfs he would have been sent to the Oubliette. "You'll never find your way out." Gary insists he would like to visit the Queen, but they explains there's no way to leave this place without the Lord Jareth's position.  They offer to show him the path straight to the castle, despite the Goblin King preferring people take the path through the Labyrinth.  In the distance, Gary can hear a frustrated woman complaining and kicking the walls about them going on and on and how they are not fair.  "Oh, that would be a Sarah. Best you do not get involved," Mister Worm mutters. Gary realizes he needs to leave and he takes the path that leads straight to the castle.  He does not see the Worm head to the wall to say hello to the woman.

Sherlock has been walking for quite sometime, that the landscape seems to have begun changing. What was once a frozen river, is now a bubbling stream with the remains of a melting ice castle.  A melting carriage can be found as well, but a man still partly frozen in the ice is visible.  Taking his magnifying glass, Sherlock holds it against the ice and the sun thankfully does magnify and begin to heat the ice up.  One of the bushes shakes nearby, and Sherlock turns to call out, "Who is there!"  But no one answers.  He focuses on melting the ice near the man's face.  The animal that emerges however from the bushes is a great moose, with antlers that spread far and wide.  With enough ice melted, the man's face is now visible and he thanks Sherlock for his help. Sherlock just asks for how to get to the Lion, but the man doesn't know anything of the Lion.  "That's not until the other ridge." Sherlock claims to just be a passerby. The man asks how long he has been frozen and wonders where his friends are.  Sherlock immediately deduces that the man has been frozen a few years, and suggests his friends probably had left long since then.  He suggests this magical place could be why he's still alive. Unable to grab the branches, Sherlock realizes he cannot rig the branches to hold the magnifying glass up.  Sherlock turns and sees the moose nearby, and tries to have it come closer.  The man asks if it is "his moose" which turns out it is.   With the man's help, Sherlock gets Sven - the moose - to start helping break the man free.  "I have an idea, but it might hurt," Sherlock grins.  "Just trust me... maybe." Sherlock leads Sven far away and directs him to charge towards the man to break him free.  Sven charges, and shatters his companion, Kristoff, free from the ice prison. Sherlock admits he couldn't have broken the ice himself, but asks for a ride to the Lion.  Kristoff admits its all the way at the other country, but Sherlock reminds him he saved his life.  They let Sherlock hop on and ride to the next country - talking about the sisters whom Kristoff is friends with, and of the friend Sherlock had lost in this land as well - covering a lot of ground very quickly thanks to Sven. "It's always magic that makes things weird... like those trolls in the mountain.  Encased in ice right?  Guess she was mad at me."  Sherlock sighs, "Good thing the cold never bothered you anyway." When he asks for Kristoff's name, however, they cross the border before Kristoff can ask and Sherlock finds himself in another land with a castle.

Aiden asks for more information about the King. Tatianna explains how once there was a young woman who caught his eye - a woman named Sarah. They danced and fell in love.  He invited her to stay forever and she agreed.  The King and Queen were married, but as the years and years passed, she missed her son.  So he spread to all his Goblins the words that would be said to call him, and had them whisper it to all the women in the world with her name.  In hopes of finding Sarah again.  Aiden asks why she'd never confront him about it, but she reminds him she is Tatianna and such matters are beneath her. As they talk, Aiden realizes he can see Lucius as part of the tree behind her.  As he studies the tree, he can see more people entombed within it.  Hoping to distract her, Aiden asks more questions about Sarah and why she didn't do anything given she is being treated as an afterthought by the King.  Tatianna claims she does not believe she is on the side. Aiden however implies she shouldn't be okay with him having someone on the side.  Tatianna claims they all have someone that entertains them.  The servants come in, bringing in paints for him to use, as Tatianna asks Aiden to paint her image on the tree.  Aiden asks her to get comfortable, while he takes some time to visualize how to portray her beauty upon the tree. Tatianna nods, stands, and drops her clothing, "As you wish to see my beauty..." Aiden feels his Cool fading upon seeing her naked body.  He tries to stay calm but is failing.   Asking if he needs conditions different to work, she causes the dancers to disappear into woodland animals that run away and even dismisses the cold winter to let sunlight shine down. Aidan moves up to the tree.

Gary emerges and finds himself in a small town, with every house far smaller than expected. He looks back and finds he had emerged from a jar on its side.  Chickens occasionally hurry past him as he walks towards the castle up ahead. He catches sigh of what looks like a dwarf on a fountain.  The dwarf has a bunch of things hanging on his belt and holds a fruit between his fingers.  The dwarf mutters to himself about having to stop doing "this", whatever this means, but catches sight of Gary and asks who he is. Gary introduces himself and the dwarf says he looks lost, especially since he does not look like a Sarah. The dwarf wonders if "she" changed the rules this time and brought a friend. Gary admits he finds the dwarf rude and shows off his bazooka, "Jessie."  The dwarf admits he doesn't think Jareth will like seeing someone like him here.  The dwarf grabs the fish, and the trap door hidden on the ground swivels open beneath Gary! Gary leaps, landing away from the trap, and he smells a whiff of some horrible stench coming from down below.  "We're you trying to throw me into the Yubeleeh?" The dwarf reaches for the other fish, but Gary takes aim and shoots the dwarf on the shoulder.  The dwarf hits the floor, clutching his shoulder, admitting he tried to send Gary into the Bog. Gary demands to know the fastest way to King Jareth, but Gary warns him he's using modern man's technology.  The sound of a coin rattling nearby catches their attention.  A flamboyantly dressed figure emerges with a long beaklike nose.  A massive hat covers his head.  The figure walks with a wooden box held in one hand.  "Now you're going to get it," the dwarf hisses.

Gary calls out to the figure, demanding the hat wearing man bring him to King Jareth. "You look like a guard.. can you bring me to the castle?" The long nosed man shakes the box in front of Gary, as if asking for a gift. Gary drops one of the bullets inside and the nose man tells him he can ask. Gary asks to head for the castle, and the long nose man admits, "Well, if that's what really what you want.."

Sherlock realizes he's walking through a massive field now with all these tall standing flowers.  He finds so many other people sleeping in the fields.   Sherlock bends down and shouts to try to wake the closest one.  But stops when he realizes the figure looks like some kind of scarecrow on the floor.  The next figure is a metal statue on the floor.  Sherlock raises an eyebrow, and again calls out to try to wake anyone who will.  The metal figure looks up at Sherlock and asks what he is.  Sherlock dismisses the question as unimportant and realizes the metal man is very sleepy. Fluttering sounds fill the sky. Sherlock looks up and sees the dark flying shapes.  He rushes forward to head for the castle before the fliers get to him.  He ends up running past the massive lion sleeping beside the girl with the red slippers.  As he reaches the castle, however, the border shifts once more the terrain and now he's in a place with green pools of water.  The castle is barely standing, with statues surrounding it. All the statues are broken in some way.  Sherlock makes his way into the castle, hearing the voice of Aiden as he talks to a woman about her beauty. Peering through the glass window, Sherlock sees Tatianna drop her clothes and hold a pose.  She moves to beside the window.  Aiden tries to draw her, but as he tries to touch the tree, Tatianna warns him NOT to touch the tree. The Queen offers the palette of colors and Aiden, unthinkingly reaches for it.  Sherlock realizes Aiden is about to receive a gift from the Queen and forces himself through the Castle's glass walls.  He feels his ghostly form tear slightly from the effort, and he calls out, "No!" before Aiden grabs hold of it. Terror tears through them all as the Queen shows her displeasure.  Sherlock loses his cool and he begins to turn into a statue despite being a ghost! Aiden drops to his knees, as he tries to distract Tatianna with flattery, calling the intruder's interruption an unfortunate event.  He tries to have her turn around to paint her back, and thankfully, she agrees to.

The Goblin King reveals himself before Gary, as he pulls away his hat and massive nose. The Goblin King throws the disguise, which has now become a goblin, at Gary. He demands Gary explain his presence here given he's not a "Sarah."  With his horse crop, he whips Gary, and demands an answer. Gary explains he is here because of "some woman."

Confessional #1
It was around this moment that Jareth realized why Gary looked familiar.  Gary, for some odd coincidence, looked like the Queen Tatianna's former lover!

"Auberon," Jareth mutters, surprised to see him still around despite having been dealt with in the past.  He stalks around Gary like a shark, demanding an explanation how he survived the murder. Gary decides to ride along and claims he is the all powerful Auberon.  Jareth admits he does not know how Auberon broke free from the tree, but his being here proves he is sly and capable.  A crash alerts them both to the new arrivals, a woman, a thing riding a dog, and a hulking horned figure.  Jareth realizes he has no time and so with his magics, he sends Gary into a glass bubble and into some tiered chamber filled with goblins.  The goblins mutter and gasp as Jareth confronts Gary in here.  "Explain yourself! How did you escape the White Tree? How did you get a virgin to touch you?"  When Gary struggles to keep a straight face, Jareth sees through the lie and begins whipping him with the crop, "You are not Auberon!"

Back by the tree, Sherlock realizes the curse fails and he remains solid but of flesh instead of stone!  Aiden motions to the tree, pointing at the face of Lucius.  Sherlock approaches the tree, and studies it - hoping to discern something useful. He realizes that if someone who is a virgin touches the tree, it will collapse and free all the people trapped within. Sherlock turns to Aiden, wondering if he's "ever been touched down there." Aiden grumbles that he has already been touched down there... by himself... every night!  When Tatianna wonders if Aiden is asking to someone, Aiden claims he is merely thinking the thought process of the artistic pursuit.  Aiden then reaches to touch the tree.

Confessional #2
Sherlock remembers that day well.  He remembers how when Aiden touched the White Tree, despite claiming to have been touched "down there" many time before, the tree did collapse and the bodies all emerged from within, falling on top of them!

With the bodies scattered all around the area, with many atop Aiden and Sherlock, the only person who remains standing is a single man who.. looks like an Ivory-Skinned Gary?

Because Gary looks like Auberon.

Javier's parents are nearby, as well, their upper body torsos the only visible part on their body.  Lucius rises from the pile as well.  Auberon mutters that somehow, "That man.. his Purity has some how freed me..."  Sherlock explains that self-pleasure does not cause the loss of virginity, especially in the world of symbols that the faerie folk thrive in.

Jareth commands his goblins to delay Tatianna and anything she is up to.  He snarls at Gary that only babies are allowed in his castle, and that on the thirteenth hour the babies become his forever. He tells Gary, however, to offer him a gift and he will send Jareth off his way.  Gary digs into his pocket and pulls out a flashlight, claiming it to be a "Weird magical torch."  But Jareth rolls his eyes, claiming to know what it is, but anxious to be rid of him, sends him to his companions.  "Turn to the right and stick your lips out," he mutters, telling Gary he reminds him of a certain international male model, "Fine, turn to the left if you can't turn that way either." Gary does so, and he vanishes.  Jareth shakes his head, "About time.  I was afraid I was going to tell him to have a walk off.."

Gary appears in the other room and sees the commotion inside, as well as his lookalike who speaks to Tatianna about the bet being over.  Freed from the tree, Auberon can take Tatianna back with her to be the queen of the elves once again.  Gary calls out to them, and admits he looks like the man. Auberon and Tatianna look at Gary realizing there is truth in that statement. "Why is it your face resembles mine," Auberon wonders. Gary claims he cannot tell him. He explains to them however that the Goblin King hates him. Auberon asks for who freed him and Aiden admits it was him. Auberon explains it is common among their kind to make bets to amuse themselves, and asks about his presence in the area. Aiden tries throwing them a bet that he cannot be beaten in a dance off. Tatianna smiles at the idea and admits he has the Artist's Soul.  Auberon offers them a parting gift. "Name it."

Sherlock asks if everyone is free to leave with them. Auberon admits he sees no reason not to let them go. Tatianna admits she took them only because she missed him.   Aiden asks that they all leave safely, and Tatianna grants it.  The whole group then walks the path they are shown, which leads to a doorway, and through the doorway, they find the pylons and Javier in his power armor.  They all finally step through and return home.

Javier sees his parents.  He exclaims they've all done it... and brought so many other people back. Javier embraces Lucius, and after asking if he is well, admits he's docking two weeks of pay from his salary for being absent.  Lucius finally utters his first word, "Whaaat!?!?"   The doorway begins to pulse and close.  Jalfredo and Jato screams at everyone to run for it before it collapses.  Aiden and Gary leap forward, trusting in their gym training to get out.  They leap. The pylons explode.  Sherlock alone fails to get across in time.

Javier asks if they're all complete. Hearing an all clear, Javier then tells Jalfredo to approach each one who has been rescued and tells them to hand them the bill for "A Rescue".  Javier thanks Gary and Aiden and Lucius for the rescue of his parents.  Javier admits he is now closing J.A.M.S. as there is no reason now for the group to exist given his family is now complete. Gary, however, claims it has to remain open since there are still so many monsters out there.  Gary is bequeathed the remnants of Javier's workshop to take and use as he will see fit.  This includes the vehicles and armory.  To Aiden, he bequeaths the rights to the Inspectres license as the sole owner of the company. He is even to claim all the money from today's rescue.  Finally, Lucius is handed a bill.  For being rescued.

"WHAAAT?!" Lucius screams again.

Javier joins his parents and asks what happens now.  Javier's parents recommend they go watch The Mask of Zorro this time.  Javier even recommends his mother wear the pearl necklace he got her before.   The three leave.

Gary watches them leave, suspecting something may happen to them.  But decides all is right in the world for now.

The Nisab Diary ep06 : 7th Sea

10/24/2016
The Nisab Diary

"Schattenmann"
Episode Six - 7th Sea

More days and nights have been spent in the dark woods of the Schwarzen Walder. Save for Reikion, who seems to be in his element, the two other try to make the most of the journey as they navigate the rougher woods and uneven terrain.  They have reached the deepest parts of the forest. Moonlight barely shines through.  If anything, they know they are at least halfway through the darkest part of the woods.

Reikion finds himself enjoying the isolation and cold and absence of man. He has gotten so inspired, he's been catching game to eat. Jan Volta, however, is getting concerned since oil levels are going low and the distance from civilized lands bothers him. When Walden Reichart finds a second dead body, one underneath a fallen tree, he notes how it is again a religious figure - a woman dressed in a nun's habit, clearly of the Vaticine Church.  She is missing the upper half of her head, however, with a clean cut across the head -  leaving only the lower jaw and the rest of the neck.

Ahead of them, Reikion can see a barn not that distant from the rest.  Embracing Matushka's blessing, he transforms into a raven and flies off to check it out.  Walden shows Jan the dead body and they note the clean cut, realizing it seems to have been done by two opposing blades -  a massive pair of shears.  Reikion flies to the bard and sees the farmland has a wooden fence surrounding it.  The place looks to be in a general state of disarray. A smaller barn house stands not too far away.  The house shows smoke rising from the chimney, with make-shift shutters on the windows.  Reikion notes all the crops, corn from the looks of it, are in a terrible state.  Perhaps due to drought or the ground lacks fertility. Reikion lands on the roof of the house, and peering through the cracks and breaks on the shingles, he can see an older woman deeply focused on her prayer by the fireplace.  Two younger children, around five to six years of age, silently kneel in prayer, though occasionally nagging each other quietly.  Reikion does not find any sign of the father in the household, however.  He notices the faint glow in the small barn, and so he flies there to check.  Landing on the side window, he sees the older man holding a lamp in one hand while he keeps the cow calm.  The eldest daughter is attempting to milk the cow and complains that nothing is happening even if they have been trying for the last few days.  Reikion looks up and realizes as thick as the woods have gotten, this farmland must have been chosen to take advantage of the clearing above, allowing moonlight and likely at day - sunlight - through.  He decides to fly back to the others.

Jan studies the dead body, hoping to understand how she came to be under the fallen tree. Walden is watching the surroundings, searching for any foot prints and the like.  Reikion sees a shiny thing in the woods in the distance as he flies back.  Descending to check, he notices the slightest of moonlight reflecting against a metallic surface in the shadow of a tree.  Jan realizes the body died from the partial decapitation, so it wasn't a post-mortem cut.  Her feet are adorned with shoes that are not practical to wear in the woods. She does not look like someone who would have been traveling through the forest.  Walden notices something shimmering in the branches above and he whispers to Jan he doesn't think they are alone right now.  Reikion lands by the tree's shadow and tries to get a closer look of the shiny thing.  He uncovers it is a belt buckle, with foreign craftsmanship, laid on a clump of dead leaves and mud.  He notes the buckle is adorned with the depiction of the rising of the Prophet.   Reikion looks up the tree, wondering if it came from someone up the tree. Maybe it fell from the branches.  He sees the shimmering thing on the branches - the same thing which Walden had seen - and Reikion realizes from his vantage point it is an ornate throwing dagger. Jan studies the corpse's clothes and realizes she probably came from Montaigne.  Walden sees a raven looking up the dagger, and realizes it is Reikion.  Just before it could fly up to check the dagger, however, instincts kick in and Reikion dodges to the side.  Another dagger hits the nearest tree trunk!  The buckle, it turns out, was not just on leaves and mud.  A hidden figure owns the belt, and had covered itself in mud and leaves.  Reikion squaks a warning to the others.  Jan and Walden drop the body and hurry to where the raven is.

There, they discover a woman caked in mud and leaves.  The woman, clearly from Montaigne as well, is lacking her right arm and her legs.  She is barely conscious.  "So much for killing you, but I guess I shouldn't have tried."  She laments about dying in what she calls Eisen to be a god-forsaken country.  She mutters that prayer does work when Reikion resumes a human form in front of her.  Jan and Walden arrive, and as they examine her wounds, she tells them about the terrible events her group had befallen.  When Jan informs her he is a doctor and can help, all the more she muses about prayer working.  But as Jan tells her he can treat her, his dievas appears beside her smiling.  Jan realizes the woman is Montaigne, and he still has a standing promise to insult the first Montaigne he sees.  The woman explains she had her companions must have made a "bad walk" somewhere and fell out of the Walk.  And that "it" came out of nowhere.  Jan tries to suppress her bleeding but when he tries to insult her but muttering this is the stupidest thing he has ever heard or seen anyone do, the woman accepts the statement as truth rather than an insult.  The dievas warns Jan that if he fails to insult her before they meet another Montaigne, he fails to fulfill the promise.  They wash clean her wounds, clean her up a bit to help her feel better.  She mumbles, hallucinating that a dog is licking her face. "Good dog..."

Walden wonders if this even connects to the Montaigne crates they had seen in the greenhouse in Starke.  The possible picture of all of these being connected bothers him. The group begins to wonder if she's related to the other religious dead people they had seen in the earlier days.  The Walk, however, makes them wonder if it has anything related to the Porte Sorcier they met and the supposed blessures in the area.

But lo, to their horror, the Schattenmann appears!  The nightmarish figure turns out to be real and with his massively long limbs, it begins to close in on the group with its gleaming shears.  The group realizes they have to act quickly!  While Reikion uses his dueling skills to give him an edge, Jan Volta tries to fulfill his promise to the dievas while trying to help her as well. Walden learns that the farm house somehow has never been visited by the Schattenmann and after asking them for help, wonders if the group can run there to find sanctuary from the horror.

Jan resorts to doing something unthinkable.  Using a favor he has with the dievas, he strips the Montaigne woman of any memories of the horror she has gone through, then tells her of how she has brought failure to the people she was tasked to protect.  The woman undergoes the terrible anguish of once more feeling her inadequacy in watching over her charges, and worse, re-experiences the painful trauma of losing her limbs once more.  The act touches Jan with a hint of Corruption and the dievas smiles.

Their combined efforts thankfully begin to weaken the Schattenmann, and with the use of vines, ice weapons and well timed shots, the three successfully defeat the horror!  Jan glimpses a long forgotten lore about the thing, through the dievas' help,  and discovers the Schattenmann is a cursed state gained when someone touches the silver shears.  For this, he agrees to say yes to the first "offer" he is given  within the next 24-hours.  He quickly buries them under some earth and leaves and tells the rest that they should head back.  When they get to the Montaigne woman, whom they had left on the grass while they fought the horror, they discover she had passed on.  The guilt gnaws on Jan Volta, who promises to not consort or use the powers the dievas has given to him as a penance for his actions.

The group arrives at the farm house and learn the family has reservations of allowing one of the Waizen into their homes. Reikion opts to rest in the forest, not feeling welcome given the family's strong focus on their faith in the Prophets.  Walden opts to camp somewhere else as where, nearly hitting the shears in his walk.  And Jan finds himself quickly falling asleep,  He does not see the eldest daughter, Tomasin, sneaking into the room and staring at him.

One can only wonder what she has to ask from him by the time he awakens.

*

The next morning, Jan awakens to find himself alone at the breakfast table, where he is given bread and butter and water to enjoy.  Reikion soon arrives, and thankfully is still welcomed to join for breakfast.  Walden, however, still feels unwelcome given the view most Eisen have for one of the Waizen. But when the older son goes missing, the family begin to worry what may have happened.  The heroes are tasked to see if they can help with the farm animals, as well as if they can find the missing boy.

In the barn, Reikion inspects the animals and finds a black goat locked up in a cage.  The family sees the goat as an ill omen and does to allow it to roam free.  When he inspects the cow, he discovers it is unable to create milk given the terrible nutrition is has.  He recommends they allow the cow to graze outside the fenced area. Reikion searches the woods as well for the missing boy and finds another farm house further in the woods.  The group commences trying to find more signs of the boy.

In the woods, a bear is found sleeping.  There are signs of it having attacked a boy. Worse, they find the boy's shoe there.  When the eldest daughter learns of this she asks them to find the boy.  Also in the woods, they find Olaf, the brother of the siblings from tower.  He confesses to them that he had come upon the boy, found him near death, and unfortunately he had transformed him though it was not an intentional act.

They find the boy in the other farm house, and he has sadly transformed into a vampire.  With Jan and Walden killing him, as his hunger has gone out of control, they soon find the mayor with other men outside the farm house demanding for answers.  The family learns of what has happened to their son and the group seeks the monster than cursed the boy to punish them.

The group confronts the crowd, and thankfully, convinces them to leave them to deal with Olaf for the transgressions.  They exile Olaf for his actions, hoping to at least spare him for having unintentionally caused the problem.  They inform his sister of the events and convince her to abandon the tower for her own safety.  She agrees to leave only after her people choose to leave with her, and burn the tower and the homes to settle the matter with the mayor.

In the end, the group feels they have won a hollow victory.  Olaf is forced to leave.  And his sister finds herself consumed with the anger and hatred of having lost the only one who mattered to her in her family.  The heroes do not realize that she has been set upon a path leading towards becoming a Villain.  Walden destroys the flayed man, thinking it would be best they were not influenced by the terrible thing anymore, but fails to realize with his death, the sister's appetite for blood might now grow unchecked.

The mayor then asks the heroes to accompany him, and they make their way to Heilgrund to be guests of the Eisenfursten Stefan Heilgrund for having helped the people.

*

Thomasin laments the loss of her brother.  And one day while grazing her cow outside, she bears witness to an event that scars her psychologically for the years to come.  The cow comes upon the shears and is affected by its curse, transforming once more into a new Schattenmann that walks away and vanishes into the woods.  She will never speak again.

*

And Olaf, as he leaves, finds a portal opening.  A figure arrives and pulls him away, as he now has a new part to play in the schemes of an unknown mastermind.

JAMS ep02 : Inspectres

8/04/2016
Javier's Armed Men Squad

Episode Two
"Beach"

Inspectres

The game opens with a darkened street.  Three people emerge from a movie screening of The Mask of Zorro.  The two elderly people tell the third old bald man stuck on a wheelchair that it is alright being afraid of the bats.  As they walk, a man at the street corner quietly begins to approach them, digging for something in his clothes.  But then, Jalfredo intercepts the man in his car, giving the man a stare.  The man walks away.  He tells the family the car is ready.  One can only guess what could have happened if Jalfredo was not there.

Getting the Call
In the vast dark library, Lucius emerges from the darkness with the book, "Sea Life of the Underworld," drawn out by the sound of a ringing phone.  He snaps the book closed and answers the phone.  Back at the manor, a horny student calls in, informing them of some kind of supernatural appearance happening at a remote area where a festival is going on.   She starts describing a towering thing, over four stories all, with the ground shaking with each step.   Elsewhere, at the olympic sized pool, Aiden is enjoying a good swim.  He hears strange sounds by the window and approaching it, he gets blinded by a flash of light.  As his eyes recover, he thinks he sees a car speeding away.  He hears Lucius' voice and makes his way to the corridor adjoining the area.  And finally, Gary emerges at the alleyway as well, a plate of donuts in his hand.

Research/Investigation
The three immediately try to investigate what they can.  They uncover that the current event at the beach side is the Drowned Man Festival, which is a festival to commemorate the death of a man who died in a kiddie pool.  He died while saving a bunch of children.   Aiden decides to check Instagram and true enough, hashtag #DMF shows a large number of people in beach attire.  The images mostly show drunken teens, people doing kegstands, hanging by nearby trees, and people enjoying the live band.   One picture shows however something that looks like a giant leg in the background.   The whole thing seems to be sponsored by a soda company.  Gary decides to call his pervy friend, a policeman named Rodrigo and the cop gives a sleazy report of being at the beach side and being aware of the strange sounds coming form the area.  He does however admit he's been drinking that night so he might just be hearing things.  The loud booming sounds in the background suggest something massive walking, however.  Lucius decides to whip out the Ouija Board and tries to contact the Drowned Man himself.  The spirit of Antonio Banderaz is summoned through the sympathetic connection that exists with the black bandana souvenier Aiden has when he once attended a DMF event some years back.  The spirit confirms he is not at the event but gets dispelled before he can explain something odd being present there.

With that, the group decides to take the case.  Javier arrives, and the group meets his parents, who identify them as Javier's study group (despite Javier being and old bald man) and they quickly retire to what Javier calls his Cave.

Suiting UpThe Cave has a number of suits, equipment and vehicles currently being worked on.  Javier admits those are all intended for a dream he had of protecting the city in some manner.  Some wonder if he just does cosplay and he tells them not to talk about it to anyone.  As they peruse the equipment, the three look for things can use for the mission - remembering their previous mission's terrible turnout.  Aiden finds an experimental Sonic Grenade which affects only supernatural things.  Lucius finds a massive Bola Launcher which he things would be perfect against giants.  Gary finds an experimental portable bazooka which gives out an odd cow sound when it is fully charged and ready to fire.

Javier stops them at first, confused why they seem to be taking over his business.  They explain there's a job and he finally relents, admitting they cannot take the car.  Jalfredo opts to have them take the boat.   They find a black speedboat with triangular markings which Javier calls his "Goldfish" ("It's not painted yet.")  Javier tells them "Just do it" is the motto of their enemy.  So they have to keep a low profile to get popular with the people.  Gary is John. Aiden is Joseph. And Lucius is Josh.  He again warns them never to use their real names to stay safe. Their new slogan is "Join us!"  And they're are off.

Fieldwork
The group decides to head to the location via sea and takes the speedboat route.  To their surprise, the whole area is seemingly empty despite supposedly the Drowned Man Festival being celebrated here. It is not silent, however, as they can hear the terrible sound of a thousand cellular phones chiming in or ringing as family members try to reach their loved ones to no avail.  They aren't certain if the thing is killing people or something kind.  The argument hits them with some stress.

As they move to get closer, flares are utilized to see the area better.   The flare flies, but hits something and starts falling sooner than expected.  Aiden steers the boat closer to that area.  Gary readies the bazooka, finding a laser targeting option on the device. Flicking it on, it casts a flashlight wide laser ray which he uses to illuminate the area ahead.

The thing is massive.  A giant by any definition.  But more disturbingly, it is composed of composite bodies of all the other attendees of the event!  Aiden tries to turn the boat before it slams into the thing, but fails to warn the others in time.  Gary thanks the fact he's used the Gym before but fails to hold on... but with a splash he discovers the bazooka itself was built to float in water!   Lucius however is flung off the boat and ends up landing against the monster itself.  He feels the hands, arms, legs all clamped on each other as they hold on to him as well.   Panic sets in!

The moon.  Gary realizes he cannot see the moon.  And as he turns to call for Aiden, he realizes he cannot see Aiden either!  The dark thing must be reaching for him!  Gary fires the bazooka at that direction.

Aiden hears the cow sound!  He realizes its the bazooka and he leaps into the water with a flashlight in his hand.  The explosion above him illuminates the area for a moment, revealing there was something that was just about to grab him!

The illumination reveals to Lucius the terrible sight of the composite giant, with now people burning and falling off from the "arm" that was struck with the bazooka.  The bodies plunge into the water, burning as they break away from the composite arm.  Lucius tries to climb higher.  He finds a secure spot and tries to talk to the closest face he finds.   Sadly, the face barely registers his presence.

Confessional #01
Lucius talks about how Aiden's love for the whole 70s vibe helps in the mission as his brightly reflective sequin top has the lights reflect around to draw the thing's attention.
End Confessional #01

Lucius tries to call out, "Joseph! Use the SONIC BOMB!"  Aiden rises from the water, like a glittering mermaid, and with the flashlight shining against his sequined clothing, he raises a hand with the Sonic Grenade.  Despite while treading in the water, his former life-guard training has him throw the Sonic Grenade at Lucius' direction.

The bomb explodes, giving out another cow-like sound, shedding more of the people from the composite form.  Gary follows the bomb with the flash light to see what will happen.  This time, however, the people broken free seem to be okay.  As people falls into the water, the three now wonder if its a chance to save more people.

Confessional #02
Aiden remembers talking about Lucius possibly going to die that moment.  But the thing was, Aiden actually taught Lucius how to do high diving during their free time.
End Confessional #02

Lucius safely dives into the water perfectly, remembering the lessons Aiden had shared with him before.  The giant begins to fight more aggressively, which tells them the Sonic stuff seems to work.  But with their limited number of grenades, however, they need to find a way to beat the thing.  The giant reaches to clamp both hands around Aiden, so he pulls another Sonic Grenade out and erupts it as the hands cup him.  People fly away as the hands shatter from their composite form.   People who have been freed are panicking, not fully cognizant of where they are or how they got to the water.

Gary sees a woman nearby who starts grabbing the bazooka from him.  He notices her platinum blonde wig that covers most of her face except for her mouth.  He starts helping the celebrity singer, Sia, to reach the shoreline and learns from her that she was giving a concert when the power went out.  The group starts to move to the shoreline to find a way to end this.

The group gets separated at the shoreline.  Lucius fires the Bola Launcher towards the water side, unable to truly clearly see where it might be standing.  He thinks he caught both of its legs, but cannot see for certain.  Lightning flashes, and for the brief moment, all can see the stretched out humanoid form still composed of the other captive people.  Without its forearms from Aiden's grenade, the thing struggles to remain balanced due to the bola that has entangled its knees.  It moves, disturbingly, in perfect silence.

Aiden holds up the last Sonic Grenade.  He wonders how to use it more effectively, if it seems to be working against the thing.

Gary and Sia reaches the shore.  Sia complains how all these expensive sound systems were at the beach for her concert, but maybe she should have paid attention to the mention of some kind of fairy stones or stonehenge that was earlier where the stage was set up.  Gary wonders if the stones are the missing connection to the manifestation.

Lucius reaches the shoreline and finds the tree where the student who called earlier has been hiding.  She readily admits she finds Lucius attractive, but tries to give more information on the terrible monster.  She flirts with him a lot, asking him to let her hug him close while they talk.  She identifies herself as "Stacey," and Lucius identifies himself as "Josh."  She tells him about wanting to have his babies, and even mentions she has a twin sister who would love to share him.  Lucius hands her a calling card and tells her to call him tomorrow.  She gasps because it has his name and asks if he would accept her body instead of the money.  She tells him how her mother is very rich, but doesn't like humans, and that it might be her last night on earth.  She asks for permission to hug him and when he says yes, she drops to her knees to hug him.

Lightning flashes.

Aiden dives under and swims towards the giant, hoping to find anything that suggests is acting as the monster's "center" or "core."  He uses the Paranormal Reader (from the first mission) to scan the thing and finds the strange enemies it emits can be traced back to the stage area at the beach! Aiden dives back down after a quick gulp of air to swim for the shoreline.

Gary tells Lucius what he's learned and the two make their way for the stage, leaving Sia behind at the beach.  The horny student runs to accompany them to the stage.  Aiden tries to join them but the giant notices his movement.  The giant attempts to stomp on Aiden!

Confessional #03
Gary remembers how he only realized that night how Aiden was cooler than he thought. He was after all, a 70s ninja, having learned ninjitsu from some dojo.  It so works with his sequins.
End Confessional #03

Aiden breaks into a run, and as he remembers his ninja training, he easily evades the giant's foot as he dashes on the sand.  (dodging to the theme of the Baywatch theme song).  Lucius grabs the sand and allows it to spill out, attempting to see if he can detect any occult readings from it.  Gary, on the other hand, starts working on the stage soundsystem.  Lucius gets gagged when the sand files into his face and mouth.  The horny student tries to help him by using her tongue to wipe away the sand that is blinding him.

Speakers, microphones, lights all come on as Gary finds the unplugged extension cord and clamps them back together.  The giant turns into their direction, noticing the stage.  Aiden arrives and, ignoring Lucius who is getting tongued, comes up to Gary and flings the grenade to him.  Gary holds up the microphone after yelling out, "Good evening Cleveland," before raising the microphone to the grenade to catch its explosion!

The throw is perfect.  The sound transmits outwards in a wave of anti-supernatural energy.
Lucius, on the ground, sees the glowing stone beneath the stage, the last remnant of the "stonehenge structure" that was here.  The cow sound blares all over them. The giant explodes, falling apart as people tumble to the ground.   The force of the sound even causes the clouds to part and moonlight to finally shine down.  The horny student holds Lucius closer, asking him to take her home as she's scared of the sound.  She pulls him close and asks for his real name.

Lucius gives it.  She smiles, tells him she thinks she loves him... and as Aiden and Gary pose dramatically as the bodies scatter to the floor, with Aiden flinging off the sequins and Gary shines the laser on him.  They give a jumping high five. But when they turn to congratulate Lucius, there is no sign of him.  All that remains is a ring of mushrooms having sprouted where he was standing. The bola launcher is left on the sand.  Gary unearths the mushrooms, digging, wondering if there's any clue of where he has gone.

Clean Up
They relate to Javier and Jalfredo what happened and thought they consider at first the chance Lucius had quit to join with the underage student, Javier returns and holds up a book.  Mushroom rings, stonehenge, and the like are all connected to the fairy folk.  The rings suggest one of them passed through or just left, Javier shows a text that says, "So long as the ring is not broken..." Gary facepalms.

Javier decides to call a friend who can help.   He warns them, though, that he is not normal.

*

At the other side of everything, Lucius meets the "mother".  She seems to have two pairs of eyes, a single mouth, and offered something for him to drink.  Lucius could not say no to the things being offered.  They talk about giving him a new name.  He falls asleep.

*

An old phone rings.  Javier makes a call to his old friend.   "You said once that if I need you, you owe me since I helped you before. I am calling in that favor."  The ghost of Sherlock Holmes nods..

Vacation
There won't be any time for a vacation trip today, it seems.

JAMS ep01 : Inspectres

07/20/2016
Javier's Armed Men Squad

Episode One
"Ley Lines"

Inspectres

#TableFlip / #TobieEats really just started as a joke when Flip was about to run his FATE game and insisted I cannot join (cause he would be too intimidated to run for a guy who always is his GM).  So I began livestreaming the hilarity of it all, and someone recommended me do this more often and call it #TableFlip.  The #TobieEats was because I was happily eating corn during this time.  After further reflection, this proved to be a great way for me to a) give a glimpse of how I run games, b) give a chance to see actual plays of other systems, and c) have a chance to experiment in running super short game sessions for future quick events.  Maybe even to the point of one hour sessions!  Who knows, maybe in future Gamers & GMs Philippines events, I can run a series of quick one hour one-shots for a variety of people during the event?

Anyway, back to Inspectres:
You can watch this session at this link

Three unlikely men have gathered together to find spooks and rid the city of unexpected horrors!  Meet the members of the city's Inspectres franchise: Javier's Armed Men Squad or J.A.M.S. They are always given an alias every mission to make sure they are never followed back.

The three are funded by a man named Javier, an old bald man stuck in a wheelchair since his first encounter with the supernatural.  He is aided by his loyal butler, Jalfredo, his maid, Jenny, and his driver, Jato.

Getting the Call
The three received a call from a skeptical housewife who claims to be having haunting from her bathroom.  She believes it comes from a parallel dimension.   Javier gives them their new names for the mission and reminds them to "Just do it."

Research/Investigation
The three quickly spend some time investigating and learn from the neighbors that animals have been disappearing in the area.  A nearby Animal Shelter also confirms that there have been growing reports of vanishing pet cats.  Aiden gives the house a preliminary visit and learns that the skeptical housewife, though she fails to give her name, claims strange cats have also been sighted in the house - given her four cat fur babies, she now sees there are around twelve in total that wander in her home.  Aiden notices the other cats look like slight variations of the primary four.

Lucius throws some rice and does a general reading and senses that the general trouble does seem to happen to numerous households.  The group meets a ten year old Asian girl who mysteriously complains that they are wasting her time - she could be studying right now instead of wasting seconds talking to strangers.  She tells them outright that the dragon ley lines have gotten tangeld up in the area.

Suiting Up

With that, the group mobilizes into activity.  The group prepares to bring with them a good amount of cat food, lengths of rope, a leyline reader meter and one of the experimental ectoplasmic cannons which Aiden feels should help out.  They contact Jato to pick them up and he arrives with their ride, a car.  Jimmy yells shotgun and when he tries to pop the doors open, Jato tells him to stop!  He pops the doors open and they rise upwards.  Jato tells them the car has a flight mode! The group heads to the location.

Fieldwork

Enroute, they discover the sky shifting in colors as they journey to the suburb.  The sky becomes reddish hue, then shifts to yellowish, then orange, then it leaps to a brilliant shade of blue and green, and suddenly where the houses used to be, strange vistas start to come to view.    Jimmy peers at the meter and finds the arrow going completely wild to the point it explodes!  As Jimmy struggles to swat the flames away, the sparks bounce on Jesus, who tries to swat them out.  When they scatter on Josh, as well, he nearly instinctively leaps out to jump, drop and roll... seven stories up!

The colors shift constantly and the buildings change to towers, to windmills, to all these other places.  They wonder if anyone has seen these kind of sights before, but no one has.  Jato seems unfazed, however, staying calm during the whole flight.  As they descend towards the house, it shifts to a castle to an igloo and back.  Jato turns to them and tells them they arrived.  He looks amused that they all seem worried.  He explains that the master Javier prepared masks to work despite the shifting realities.  He asks if any of them got one, but none of them did.    He keeps the vehicle hovering above the roof, and the three begin to drop down.

Jimmy lands in full grace on the roof, but as he poses, he stumbles to the edge.  The rooftop vanishes changing into the roof-less open courtyard of a castle.   Jesus and Jato land painfully as well, hitting things wrong.  The whole place has transformed into what looks like some medieval building. Cats swarm in the area.  A woman in a long flowing gown rushes to them, and they recognize her to be the skeptical housewife, but she seems to find them strange in some way.  The familiarity seems to take a while to sink in.  Jesus asks for the rest room, and she admits she isn't sure where it is anymore.  Jimmy asks where her husband is, and she snaps at him, "How could you ask me such a question at a time like this?!"  Oddly, she then turns to Jesus and flips her hair.  Josh gathers the rice in his hand and scatters it in the air, willing it to sense the rift that they should track.  Most of the rice falls to the ground, but one grain floats and begins darting towards a specific direction.  Josh chases after it and tells the rest to follow.   Jesus draws out a pistol and tells the skeptical housewife to stay back, warning her of the danger in the situation.     She apologizes for acting that way... "I don't know why I am acting this way. I am already married."  Jesus wonders why she never mentioned this before.

As they chase after the rice, the see the cats moving to block their progress.  As the group closes in...

Confessional #01
Gary stares at the camera and he talks about how when they were in a room full of cats.. which reminded him of when he first met Lucius.  They were also in a room full of cats.  "I didn't realize the guy could be a cat person."

Updated record:Lucius is a self-proclaimed fortune teller.
A cat person.
He is named Josh for the mission.
Academics and Tech 3
Contact 2
Athletics 1
He is played by Josh.
End Confessional

As the cats close in, Josh remembers his cats from back home.  He reaches down to stroke them, saying how they look like Percy... and Jackson...  He kneels down and asks them to point him to the source of all of this weirdness.  To their surprise, the cat replies, "Sure! Your friends are weird... they probably are dog persons."

Another cat remarks, "Never say the D word!"

Josh asks them to lead the group to the source of all of this.  He points to his badge and tells them, "I am a professional."  Jesus and Jimmy have calmed down enough to run alongside.  A hand grabs Jesus to stop him, and he sees it is the skeptical housewife.  She asks him to stay behind, but she asks him to stay with her.  "I'm a Princess right now and I don't know why."  A green wave rolls over them and the whole world shifts once more.  The others have vanished.  The castle is gone.  All Jesus can see are tall trees, soft sand, and waves. Music is playing in the background.   He turns around and sees he's at some kind of beach party.  skeptical housewife, in a swimsuit, stares at him just as confused.  A man offers them fizzy fruity drinks from a tray. They take a sip and its pretty good.  "Riiiight.." Jesus shakes his head, "I think we shouldn't drink this."  A voice calls out his name, "Gary!" and yells at him to go ride the banana boat.  "But I don't want to go on the banana boat!" Jesus hisses back.  A beach ball smacks him on the face, and his gun flies from his hand.  Jesus tells skeptical housewife they should stay put.  "Whatever happens to us is going to happen again."

Back inside, a bluish swirl washes over the cats and them.  Josh sees his hands are now gloved.  Everything seems reddish in his view.  He looks around and the cats are gone.  Women instead are present, all with a letter J displayed on some part of their body.  Josh looks around searching for Jimmy, but a tabby cat woman with orange shoulder pads and a belt wraps an arm around him and asks her what's wrong.  She tells him her name is Sinclair.  The whole room is now a room of white walls with blue glowing lines of light.   Josh sees Jimmy headed straight into the blue wave, which closes in on his friend but it seems to be invisible to him.  Josh tries to yell at him to turn back, but Jimmy only hears part of the words. His "Turn back!" makes Jimmy instead turn his back towards Josh.  He sees Jesus and the Princess standing in the distance , but when the blue wave hits, the two are gone.  Jimmy now only sees the white walls of the room, with lines of light.  Jimmy looks down and he's changed into a man made of metal.  "She's Domino... she's Feral... She's Wolfbane.." Jimmy comes up to Josh, not clear on what is happening.  Josh pulls out the rope the brought and ties himself to Jimmy, "I think we should not get separated."   Jimmy is amused how its a really short rope.

A roar draws Jesus and skeptical housewife to look up.  From above, a man with golden skin and a full mullet peeks out from the side of the vehicle.  They recognize it to be Jato.  He asks Jesus what is going on, but Jesus tells him not to move. "Stay in the same spot so we know where you are... kind of."  Jato says he sees a green wave coming in.   Jesus asks for the mask which allows the wearer to filter away the dimensions.  Jato hands it over.

The cat girls lead Jimmy and Josh to the danger... the source.  Jimmy mutters, "Aren't we supposed to go to the bathroom?" They move through a circular door that seems pretty high tech and reach a long corridor.  "It should be there on the left side," the cat mumbles.  A swirl of colors dance out of the doorway, but an almost black wave closing in.  Josh asks Jimmy how he feels right now, and Jimmy admits he thinks he can run.  Josh admits he feels very exhausted and hopes the guy can carry him. "I can't feel my legs right now."  Josh draws out more rice and tries to foreshadow what is about to come.  He drops them to the ground and before he can read it, the black wave pours at them.  If they dive for the corridor now, they can avoid the black wave but the cats will be left behind.  Josh unties himself from Jimmy and tells him to go ahead.  "I'll take care of the cats! Girls, behind me!"

Jimmy runs, sliding into the corridor to avoid the black wave.  He sees it overwhelm Josh and the girls.  They are gone.

Jesus walks into the living room of the house.  Thanks to the mask, he can see despite the swirling dimensional shifts.  He sees Josh with the cats crouching at one side.  He sees Jimmy rush into a corridor.   He walks up to the skeptical housewife, who seems preoccupied by some visions she alone can see.  He decides to leave her in her vision and continues towards his friends.

Josh is struggling to stay aloft in the waters.  Dark waters swirl all around him, and he feels himself sinking deeper and deeper into the waters of the sea.  The women are screaming like cats as the gigantic waves attempt to separate them.  Josh pedals, yelling at the cats/women to hold on to each other.    Jesus walks up to Josh, fascinated as the man seems to be pantomiming swimming while trying to extend an arm with a rope at a bunch of cats that seem to also be pretending to be swimming in human like ways.  Jesus reaches to grab Josh.  In Josh's perspective, however, a great white shark emerges from the dark waters to bite him!  He leaps away and swims to the women to protect them, kicking hard at the shark!  When Jesus grabs Josh's ankle to stop him, Josh ends up screaming believing the shark had bitten his foot!  Jesus sees Josh diving atop the dodging cats, then kicking at the air in his direction.

Jimmy enters the pulsing glowing chamber and sees a humanoid form lying in a... grave. On his chest, a glowing psychedelic hue pulses.  Studying him, Jimmy notes the man lacks having any skin.  He draws out the ectoplasmic cannon and pokes the man with his foot to check if he would respond.  The man slowly turns to face him.  Jimmy fires, hitting the man with the cannon bathing him in plasma and energy, but the man begins to rise from the grave, insisting, "You cannot be more powerful than my stare!" The lights battle for dominance.

Josh continues to kick at the shark to try to get free!  The kick smacks Jesus on the face, forcing him to tumble backwards.   Josh sees something glinting in the water near the shark.  The shark seems to be rolling back and forth in the water.  Josh paddles to the surface to recover some air.  Jesus realizes the mask was knocked off.  Josh feels the mask and upon sliding it on, sees Jesus on the floor with a bloody nose.  "You kicked me in the face!"  Jesus asks Josh to look for Aiden, and Josh sees the light at the corridor.

Hearing the lich once more taunt about the strength of his stare, Jimmy pulls out one of the cat food cans in his pocket and throws it at the lich!  It conks squarely on the undead thing's face and drops him back down into the grave...  the can pops open as it hits the ground.  The scent reaches the cats outside the room.   Josh and Jesus suddenly feel the cats all rush away.... as a yellow wave washes over them!  They suddenly realizes they are in a field with running two-legged dinosaurs running away from them.  Jesus tells Josh to guide him with his voice as he walks to find him.  Josh, wearing the domino mask, sees Jesus blindly walking and grabs him to walk beside him.  The question on what are they running away from comes to mind.  Jesus turns to look and sees the answer:  flaming meteors are falling from the sky!   Jesus tries to run off but Josh just walks and guides him to the corridor.

The cats charge, swarming at the lich from the open doorway! Jimmy laughs as the animals smack the thing back and forth as they swarm for the cat food.  Jimmy can see the body is the corpse of the husband.  He sees the cuts on both arms, suggesting the man had committed suicide in the tub.  As Jesus arrives at the door, he sees the Lich at the corner!  He runs to tackle it away from Jimmy. Jimmy pulls back the ectoplasmic cannon as Jesus rolls on the ground with the dead body.  The visuals continue to shift for Jesus and Jimmy... switching from a lich, to an octopus god, to a strange dark shadow...  The group pries Jesus off the thing and Josh sees the glowing object at the central part of the monstrosity.  "You will not... my heart!" the Lich screams as Josh  reaches to grab it and rips it from the thing.

Lights swirl in all directions as the other dimensions collapse and fragment from the real world.  The skeptical wife looks around, now alone with nary a beach party in sight.  The house looks like a house again and any hints of the castles, the sea, the dinosaurs and the like are gone.  Josh looks at his hand and sees the jade statuette of  a dragon in his hand.. the pendant the husband wore.  On its back, "Forever, Christopher + Young" is etched on the flat surface.   The ley lines are realigning and the world has snapped back to normal.  Jimmy blows on the ectoplasm cannon and places it back on its holster.

"So it is over?" the skeptical wife asks.  The three confirm so and step out of the house.  They see Jato outside,  waiting.  The skeptical wife comes up to them and asks what happened.  Josh asks if her name is Young, and when she says yes, he tries to explain that her dead husband must have been the focal point of the event due to the magical pendant that he was wearing.  She admits it was a thing they purchased from Hong Kong.  Josh recommends she does not buy anything anymore from such places.  Young seems shocked, however, only now realizing her husband was dead.  Jimmy asks why she was not aware of his death, and she admits she doesn't know why she didn't grasp it sooner.  She was just waiting for him..  all this time... thinking he was just busy.  Jimmy tries to ask more questions, but Jesus interrupts him and tells him now is not the time to ask these questions.

Clean Up
The group confirms the man's cause of death was suicide and the time of death was three weeks ago.  Young never noticed the body all that time, and the ley lines began to get disrupted as the days passed.  Given her busy life, she admits she hasn't been using that bathroom - she had been showering at work or using the bathroom while outside.  Once home, she just feeds the cats and falls asleep.
Vacation
The group learns sadly they have earned NOTHING from the job.  All the finances they earned has to be spent for medical expenses to help them recover.  Javier informs them that the loss was so big that Jato himself has quit working for them.

"What about that," Josh asks, "Can't we sell that or something?" he motions to the jade medallion.  Javier smashes it against the wall and tells them it is too dangerous and it is best destroyed.  Word on the street however has spread how JAMS is reliable.  And that is why, to ensure their discretion, Javier is assigning them all new names.  Jesus complains that makes no sense!  But Javier simply tells them to make sure they bring money back in the future.

"The world is full of danger and it is only Javier's Armed Men Squad who can save it," Javier muses.  When Jesus... ahem.. Gary tries to insist it is a terrible name, Javier reminds them they were the ones who suggested it.  Javier calls for Jalfredo who hands him his chequebook.  He pulls out three checks, fills it up with their names, then rips it apart.    He sends them away.

Epilogue

Javier and Jalfredo discuss whether having these three was the better way to go.  Jalfredo admits he still feels Javier could have done much better if he handled things alone.  "Maybe, but then again my parents are still back home and I don't think that would work for them," Javier admits.  "If only your parents..." Jalfredo muses but goes silent.

The two head back home and Javier sees his parents waiting for him at the dining table.  "So son, tell us what you did today.." Javier smiles a secret smile.
